Heyo!
I’ve returned, though I was never really gone! Between purchasing a house, Valley Fair, and the State Fair, life has kept me busy this past month, which is why we’ve missed a State of the Site or two. Of course, a gamer never rests: most of my downtime has gone into Paradox games on ironman mode, and after watching John Adams on HBO Max, I’ve been trying my hand at Ultimate General: American Revolution (though I’m starting to think winning as the Americans may be impossible!).
You’ll also notice the topic title looks a little different this time. That’s intentional, not a typo or a mod prank. Going forward, I’ll be breaking updates into general updates and site-specific updates to keep things clearer and more consistent. But first, let’s talk about goals.
Goals
Highlight Fandom Media Content on Wikis
We’ll be publishing two quarterly blogs on the Community Wiki Hub to showcase great community work from across Fandom Media sites. Expect highlights like UGC from GameFAQs and Comic Vine, GameSpot videos, and eventually insights from TV Guide or Metacritic.
Cross-Linking Guides
GameFAQs has a bounty program where we pay users to write quality guides (open to anyone!). After a lot of planning, we now have the alignment and resourcing to better connect these guides across sites. I’m finalizing the data, stakeholders, and cadence for promotion to feature bounties directly on relevant wiki game pages.
Bringing Back ROTM & FOTM
Starting in September, both Review of the Month and FAQ of the Month will return! These were successful in the past and only paused due to bandwidth. Winners will receive a small prize, likely a Fanatical gift card. Long-term, we’d like to expand this into more online (and possibly offline) events across sites, ensuring everyone has opportunities to participate.
The Document
Over the past month (and the months ahead), I’ve been building an encyclopedia of Fandom Media from a community perspective. It pulls together past work, presentations, hypothetical initiatives, data, and more. Once complete, the focus will shift to presenting, sharing, and securing buy-in, something I believe will be hugely valuable for the future.
Closing
That’s it for now! Next time, I’ll share updates on how these goals are progressing, along with more site-specific details. In the meantime, please continue submitting feedback and bugs on the appropriate boards, the support desk, or (for GameFAQs users) through the feedback forms.
Have a good one!
